Factory-manufactured hydraulic barriers consisting of sodium bentonite clay sandwiched between geotextiles.
Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCLs) consist of a layer of sodium bentonite clay encased between woven and nonwoven geotextiles held together by dense needle-punching. Upon contact with moisture, the natural sodium bentonite swells, forming a self-sealing hydraulic seal equivalent to several feet of compacted clay. GCLs save space and accelerate construction.
